Ongoing Speech Therapy
- Meet with your Speech Pathologist on an ongoing basis to help achieve your goals. This can be weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, depending on your goals.
- Ongoing appointments are flexible and we can meet you in your home, school, workplace or other community environment.
Assessments
- Assessments can be completed based on your concerns and areas your Speech Pathologist identifies. Our Speech Pathologists can complete assessments in the following areas:
- Articulation of speech sounds
- Language
- Social communication
- Phonological awareness
- Voice quality
- Fluency (i.e., stuttering)
- Swallowing
- You will be provided with an overview of the assessment results and an outline of the therapy that your Speech Pathologist can provide for you.
- The results from these assessments can be used to aid in requesting funding for your NDIS plan, ensuring you can access the services you need for as long as you need them.
- The total time for the assessment depends on age, behaviour and the number of assessments that need to be completed.
- If you require, your Speech Pathologist can write a report containing the results of the assessment, an outline of the therapy and recommended hours required. You can receive a quote from our administration team.
Comprehensive Speech and Language Report
- Your Speech Pathologist will complete all necessary assessments, depending on your areas of concern.
- The report will detail all the results of the assessments administered, an analysis of the areas that you have difficulty with and provide a summary of the findings.
Kinder/School Report
- Your Speech Pathologist will complete the necessary assessments depending on your areas of concern. However, this report will provide more information on how the results of the assessments will impact you in the kinder room or classroom and provide recommendations for you and your teachers to help you succeed in class.
- This report may also be used to support the application to fund an aide to support you in the room.
Diagnostic Report
- Speech Pathologists are not diagnosticians, but we can provide information to support the diagnosis of specific conditions under the DSM-5. These reports must be sent to your pediatrician or Psychologist for a formal diagnosis. The types of conditions that your Speech Pathologist can support the diagnosis of are:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Social Communication Disorder
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Global Developmental Delay
- Pathological Demand Avoidance
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Oppositional Defiance Disorder
- Your Speech Pathologist can provide information on your speech, language, emotional regulation, behaviour, and social communication skills to support a diagnosis of these conditions.
Mealtime Management Report
- Your Speech Pathologist will complete a swallowing assessment with you and check the function of your oral motor muscles to determine if you require modifications to your diet. For example, you may need thickened fluids or a pureed diet.
- Your Speech Pathologist will then write a mealtime management report detailing your assessment results and recommendations on how to alter your diet and strategies to support you during your meals.
Your Speech Pathologist can also go through this information with your family, support workers, carers or any other staff who might be require to support you during meals.
Assistive Technology
- Your Speech Pathologist will complete the necessary assessments to determine your need for assistive technology. This may include high or low-tech options that support your communication.
- High-tech options include iPad apps (e.g., Proloqu2go), communication-specific devices (e.g., Nova Chat 10), voice-generating devices and eye gaze control technology.
- Low-tech options include paper-based communication options, such as a Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display (PODD) book and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), as well as many other options.
- As part of assessing and recommending Assistive Technology, we can help arrange trials and attend these meetings with you in person or via Zoom.
NDIS Required Reporting
- Your Speech Pathologist will write all reports required by NDIS. These may include NDIS review reports and NDIS Change of Circumstance/Early Review reports.
- NDIS Review Reports are required three months before your NDIS plan end date. They will provide information on the assessments completed, the areas that you have worked on in therapy and how you have progressed with them, any barriers to therapy and the Speech Pathologists’ recommendations regarding hours required for the next plan.
- NDIS Change of Circumstance/Early Review reports are written when there is a change in your circumstances (such as medical issues in the family or receiving another diagnosis) or if you have run out of funding and your Speech Pathologist feels that you require more. Once again, this report will include information on your assessments and how you have progressed, but it will also include information on why you need more funding.
NDIS Letters of Support
Your Speech Pathologist can write a letter to support you in using your Consumables funding to purchase items directly related to your therapy. This might include decodable readers, iPad apps, language or articulation specific games and sensory toys. Your Speech Pathologist will need to write a letter explaining why you need to purchase this item and how it relates to your NDIS goals
Referrals
- Your Speech Pathologist can support you in identifying other therapists that you may need to see and can write a referral letter to them. This would include information on assessment results and observations in sessions and the reason you need to see this therapist. The types of therapists that this may include are:
